Kind of obvious in hindsight.
One thing about Shiro, he's the only one who didn't really have to earn his lion. The others had to go out and quest for them, and gain their acceptance. Shiro, all he had to do was wait around for the doors to unlock.
Not really a knock against him, but it's interesting narratively.
Anyways, has Keith been displaced as the main protagonist? He's always been the black lion leader, but not only is he heading up the sword arm, he has very little character development that isn't some variation on his love of fighting. That generally makes one a "Lancer" by TVTropes standards..

Of course, Keith sticks to the red lion, given the established "chosen" theme. I hope they don't do a repeat of Nick and have other lions take the body. (And the show kind of went against years of convention of the head's dominance by giving limbs much greater agency. Who would ever think "I want to be the leg!" could become a real thing? :) )

Captain Sarcasm wrote:The story, characters and animation in this series are all top-notch, but I have to give special props to the cast, because something like half of the main cast aren't played by professional voice actors. While all of them have done some voice work before, especially Steven Yuen as Wan, but they've never been main protagonists before. As for Hunk, if anyone here has ever seen the show Reaper, they know that his actor IS basically Coop brought fully formed into the material world in the same mystical process that gave us Matthew Lillard as Shaggy. Pidge's voice actress is especially impressive for spoiler reasons and she's absolutely brilliant at it. The professional voice actors are amazing here too, because I can barely recognize them from their most familiar roles. I would never believe that Princess Allura was Ashley from Mass Effect, for example. And I have to give special props to casting the Flight of the Conchord's manager Murray as Captain Spacemustache. That's just a brilliantly demented choice I never would have though of, like casting Joel from MST3K as Mayor Dewey.
I've only seen the first three episodes and was never a fan of Voltron (mine house was a Transformers house) but this is already one of my favorite series.

I kind of like the GoLion version, where Voltron's a sentient robot who challenged the goddess herself, and pays for his hubris.

Then as the main cast begins building up their resistance, gathering allies and all that, and at a time when the Galra start really pushing back, and have them in a bind, Galaxy Garrison shows up with their own version of Voltron, and we get Vehical Voltron fighting along side the Lion one.
I know it's the less popular incarnation, but I always liked both. Had the toys of both when I was little.
